For the music to Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair’s ss 2010 runway show at Copenhagen Fashion Week, we worked closely together with the brand’s designers to create a soundtrack that supported the clothes. The music is a collage of atmosphere noise, bits from Argentinian tango, old film scores, Japanese surf-pop and glitch techno. We performed the music live from a sample keyboard on location.
Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair won the ELLE Designer of the Year 2009 award for this collection at Stockholm Fashion Week. It was our first collaboration with them. They wanted a soundscape inspired by Balkan bohemia, Chaplinesque vapours and sombre surrealism - but still modern. So we layered rhythms of found noises with Balkan brass band sounds and drums of all sizes. We performed the music live from a sample keyboard on location.
For Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair’s return to Stockholm Fashion Week ss 2012, the designer’s wanted the music to be very minimal and stripped down in the beginning, while slowly building up to a deafening crescendo of wood and metal sounds at the end. We assembled a collage of percussive noise and electronic beeps interspersed with excerpts from old film music and humming generators, all grooving to a techno beat. Again, we performed the music live from a sample keyboard on location, so we were able to match specific sounds to specific movements by the models.
